Chapter Forty two

They stumbled into the room and Richard laughed when he put the lights on.

‘I can’t believe you got us this suite,’ he said walking towards her with a bottle in his hand then tipping it into her mouth. ‘I’m paying for this aren’t I?’

‘Of course you’re paying for it,’ she said kicking off her shoes. ‘I paid for dinner, you know.’

Lily watched her husband walk around the room, shirt hanging out and his hand clenched firmly around a bottle of champagne. He looked very similar to how he was the night they first slept together.

‘What are you thinking?’ he asked getting closer and aiming the champagne into her mouth.

Lily moved her head slightly so he’d miss but he sloshed it accidentally down her cheek. He laughed.

‘I was thinking about the first time we had sex,’ she said wiping her face.

‘Nostalgia! You see that comes with time, you can look back and-.’

‘Remember you didn’t call me for weeks because you were screwing Tia Malone and-.’

‘That old crap again,’ he said smiling and turning to sit on the sofa.

‘You’re not denying it?’

‘You tell me Lily?’ Richard grinned and spread his arms across the back of the chair. ‘This conversation topic is really very boring.’

‘Why don’t you ever tell me yes or no?’

‘Keeps you on your toes,’ he laughed before realising the bottle was empty.

‘Want another one?’ she asked walking to him, kneeling before pulling off his shoes.

‘I’ve got the lunch tomorrow as you well know,’ he said. ‘I can’t be pissed two nights on the trot.’

‘Yes you can. I asked Rosana to clear your diary tomorrow morning.’

‘You did what?’ he sat bolt up. ‘You can’t do that!’

‘I did,’ she smiled and rested her arms and head on his knees. ‘I know you’re busy at the moment but one morning off work isn’t going to hurt. You’ll be all fresh and gorgeous for the lunch.’

‘I can’t just-.’

‘You can,’ she said kissing her husband’s thighs through his jeans. ‘For me.’

She rested her head on his lap and felt his hand stroke her hair. Lily then slowly pulled herself up so she was straddled over him on the sofa, pushing her fingers through his hair as he closed his eyes. Examining his beautiful face, she kissed his cheeks and eyelids before kissing him gently on the mouth.

‘Richard,’ she said as he opened his eyes with a little smile on his lips. ‘I’ve always loved you. You know that, don’t you?’

‘Yes,’ he quietly replied.

She could feel his hands wandering up her thighs towards her back.

‘How much do you love me?’ she asked staring deep into his eyes, hoping for a flicker of something.

‘Why are you asking?’ he said touching her face and smiling.

‘I want to know. Do you love me more than Tia?’ Then she saw his eyes dart around. He was trying hard to think of something to say.

‘I loved her differently to the way I love you,’ he eventually replied. ‘And that was a long time ago.’

‘I can’t change you Rich so
